Club News For Everyone

I hope that this newsletter finds you and your families all keeping fit and well.

YMCA Virtual Fun Run

Please support our friends at the YMCA by taking part in their virtual fun run. More details are on the noticeboard. I know that a few of us have already done this and Jas is the quickest at the time of writing.

 Notice of AGM

A reminder that the AGM will be held on Monday 18th May via Zoom. Please read the recent emails from Ginevra for full details and the agenda.

Guess Who?

Not many people responded to this so clearly this is not one to carry forward. The pictures were of Jo Davey, Paul Walters, Mike Pocock and Nat Wilson.

Strava Art Competition

Some people really showed their creative side in this competition. Christian Froggatt in particular really threw himself into it - he started simply with the 2 metres distance symbol in the top left hand corner (very topical), but then got more ambitious with the bird and the rabbit. Leanne Sandifer also submitted a nearly identical rabbit. Paul Walters submitted the elephant. There was great excitement about a dog, but this turned out to be from someone who wasn't a club member. From the junior section Will John-Cox submitted the Union Jack. A straw poll of the committee members awarded the points to Will and to Christian.

Virtual Competition Results

Last week's competition was to  run or walk the shortest distance taking in the following - a bus stop, a school, a grave or memorial, a silver birch tree, a pedestrian crossing, a barber's shop or hairdresser's and a children's playground. Sophia Bryant logged 0.3 miles (which I think works out as 0.48km), Max Orchard logged 0.89km (and submitted another video), but the winner this week was Adrian Bowden with 0.28 miles (or 0.45 km). Well done to you all.

Monthly Distance Challenge Leaderboard

Charlie Butcher logged another 116.7km last week.  Close behind him were Matt Aylott and Fran Dunham who both logged over 100 km for the week (where was Kate this week?).  Charlie takes the title for the month with 688.4 km, Kate is in second position with 532.7 km.

New Competitions for May

  1. A new 5 x 1 mile relay challenge. Teams of 5 people running 1 mile each, any terrain, surface, distance (of at least a mile!). Weekly leader board. If you are interested in running let me know  and I will organise you into teams of (hopefully) similar strength. I hope to make the teams a mix of juniors and male and female seniors and vets. First run this week if we get enough people.
  2. The monthly distance  challenge will be replaced by a monthly climbing challenge for the next four weeks.

EA Virtual Club Nights

A reminder that England Athletics is staging a series of "Virtual Club Nights", including quizzes and talks. Details are on the noticeboard.
