  • Heather King recorded PBs in both the 100m and 200m at the Kingston AC meeting.
  • Gracie Shade recorded a 150m PB at the Bracknell Open and performed well in both the Long Jump and 600m.
  • Isla Kinniburgh took two seconds off her 800m PB at the Crawley Open, where Morgan Du Preez recorded great times in both the 75m and 600m.

Ebbisham Boys League - Sunday 7th April @ Epsom

The first boys athletics league match is to be held on Sunday 7 April at Epsom. There are events for U11-U17 boys. Each athlete can do three events plus a relay. There is no cost to enter nor any limit on the number of athletes we can enter . We just need to register our athletes a couple of days before the event. This is a low key event and great for those with limited competitive experience. Please let Mike Gent know if your son would like to compete and what their preferred events are.

Open Meetings

In addition to the two leagues we enter each season there are a number of Open Meetings held locally that athletes can enter directly via the relevant Club's websites. There is a Basingstoke Open on 6th April and for the older Juniors the first Watford Opens are on 3rd April and 17th April. If you are interested in your son/daughter competing in some open Meetings please talk to their Coach if you need some guidance on the best events.

Jimmy James Championship

The final race of this season's Jimmy James Handicap series took place at Denbies last Thursday. Yet again Kate Knight was the sole RPAC entrant. Kate completed the course in a handicap time of 45:46 (01:05:46 total time). Congratulations to Kate who retains the Jimmy James Handicap trophy.

Missing Cross Country? Why not give the MABAC League Events a go?

Unlike Surrey League Cross Country, the MABAC League runs right throughout the year. There are ten clubs in the league and each club hosts a race per year - so roughly one event per month (not February or December). These are all run in wonderful locations in the beautiful Surrey countryside. Every runner who turns out for the club earns points, and you can always find someone of a similar level to compete with. All races are approximately 8 km long with a 4km option if you're not feeling up to the full distance. Most races take place on Sunday mornings, they are free to enter and there is no need to pre-register...what's not to like?
The next race is in Winterfold Forest (near Cranleigh) on Sunday 14th April - and I can't lie, it's hilly!

If you have any questions please contact me , or if you'd like more information about the league visit their website.

We are also looking for volunteers to marshal at the Winterfold Forest event on 14th April. If you're injured or not running for any reason please consider helping. If you can help please let me know by emailing

Up and coming fixtures

Whether club championship races, MABAC, Surrey Road League, SAL, Masters League, XC, parkrun tourism or other events we take part in, it's always really great to see a lot of RPAC vests at events.

You lucky people - so much choice for running going forward. Here is a list of events up-to the end of July where your participation in any would be really appreciated. Put them into your calendar and if required get yourselves an entry for each selected event. Do get in touch with the appropriate league managers if you have any queries - see the Who's who page to find out the contact details. All of these events should be on our calendar.

EMACI 2024 - by Andrew Pringle

Enjoyed my time in Torun for the European Masters (Indoor) Championships although a mixed bag of performances.

I at least managed PBs in the Jong Jump (4.34m) although I was bit disappointed to only get 9.24 in the Triple Jump.

However, happy to have managed 11th overall in the Indoor Pentathlon with a PB of 2689 points with the winner being Ian Crawley from Tonbridge AC.

My score included a PB in the 60m Hurdles (12.26s) and for the 1km (3.53.66).

The event was well organised and while there was some fierce competition, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There were many European and World records too. As the Triple Jump was next to the pole vault, I got to see Irie Hill breaking the World record while on her way to Gold for GB&NI in the W55 category – so you can’t get any closer to the action that that!

While a major Championships, they embraced athletes of all ages and performances, with a huge local Polish contingent supporting the event helping them to walk away at the top of the Medals table ahead of Germany and Spain. While GB&NI had more medals than Spain, we had just a few less Golds and were piped at the post for third in the table.

Great performances from all age groups, including a big cheer for the Italian lady getting a World record in the W90 60m, while outsprinting younger ladies in the same race.

And also cheers all around the track coming for the two Greek athletics winning Gold in 800m M90 and M95 category – even managing a sprint finish!

It was a long week, and a bit tiring traveling and I finished mid-field in all my events – so what was the point?

Well, I met a lot of like-minded people both from UK but also across Europe and we will be keeping in touch with performances and encouragement.

I even bumped into a chap from Scotland who I beat in an event over 40 years ago and he was still annoyed! (Us Scots don’t just harbour grudges, sometimes we cultivate and nurture them….).

And at the end of the day, I’ve pulled on a GB shirt and competed for my country at a European Championships, pushed myself as hard as I could, gaining some PBs and a lifetime of memories.

So why not you too?

Results should get pulled over to Powerof10 in due course, but here are the links to the organiser’s site - long jumptriple jump, indoor pentathlon.

Run Gatwick by Moray Carey

Run Gatwick is one of the races in the Run Series portfolio, which includes the well patronised Run Reigate.

The next edition of Run Gatwick will take place on Sun 12th May 2024.

Its new and latest incarnation is as a fast out-and-back 10k race run on closed roads, starting at Gatwick Aviation Museum.

Part of the route is on the restricted perimeter road inside the airport. The turn round point is close to the end of the live runway, where planes will be taking off and landing!
