Urgent: Relays Race Director needed

The Priory Relays, typically held in early November, have been an important fixture on the local race calendar since before Reigate Priory AC was a club - in fact, we inherited the race from the Redhill and Surrey Beagles. But this year, Jas Dhanda is stepping down as race director, meaning that if we want the tradition to continue, we urgently need someone or several someones to step into his shoes. The race director establishes the basic infrastructure for the race, supported by and working with other team members, including the race facilitator, entries secretary, volunteer co-ordinator, chief marshal, and others to deliver a successful event. This is a well-established race and though there are logistics to work out, there is also a lot of support available to do so. If you are at all interested, please contact the club secretary at  for more information.

Summer Evening 10k VOLUNTEER ALERT!

On 3rd July RPAC will be staging the Summer Evening 10k for the 30th time!

Our usual dedicated band of volunteers will be needed to ensure we deliver a safe event.

We’ll especially need Marshals round the 10k course but there are other roles too.

Please help out on or before race day if you’re able!

Look out for further, more detailed announcements coming soon.

Saturday 8th June – Reigate Priory AC Parkrun Tourism to Kingdom

Our next parkrun tourism fixture is looming. We’re off to Kingdom parkrun on Saturday 8th June. Kingdom is at Penshurst, Kent (near Tonbridge). Kingdom parkrun is one of the prettiest that you may see locally.   There are toilets and a café on site.  There are three laps of an undulating but scenic course.  It has been averaging about 120 runners per event this year.

We suggest you arrive early, say by at least 8.30am. It should take about 45 minutes to get there from Redhill or Reigate. There is free on-site parking for 60 cars plus additional parking along Grove Road. The postcode of the venue is TN11 8DU. From the parkrun course page… “From all directions follow signs for Penshurst Place then take B2188 south-west for approx 2/3 of a mile before turning into Grove Road. The entrance to Kingdom is then on the left after approx 1/2 mile.”

We will visit the Kingdom Café afterwards.

You can see the current standings of our parkrun tourism competition here.

Fifth Reigate Girl Guides

This is a bit unusual for an Athletics Club newsletter, but the Fifth Reigate Girl Guides desperately need new leaders if they are to continue to operate. I know that we have a number of members past and present who have belonged to this vibrant Girl Guide unit. They now find themselves at risk of closure as their current unit leadership team is unable to continue for various reasons. If you would be interested in helping keep this unit alive, or you know someone who would, please let me know by emailing

You may be interested to learn that the Fifth Reigate Girl Guides was originally founded in 1918; it would be a shame to see such a longstanding part of Reigate fold.

Send us your results, please!

If you participate in an event, email  to let us know your results. Please submit by Sunday evening at the latest to allow us to meet the deadline for the Surrey Mirror sports pages.

Thursday 30th May session cancelled and NADI reminder

The session in Priory Park is cancelled on Thursday 30th May due to the NADI. The South London Harriers "Near as Dammit 10K" series of 3 trail 10K races has been going for at least as long as I've been a member of RPAC (1999). It is always very popular with our membership. It takes place on Farthing Downs (7:30PM start), and presents an excellent race for a low cost, being £7 per race or £18 for the series. The events are on Thursday 30th May, Thursday 27th June and Thursday 25th July. You can read the details of the NADI here. There is a course map and profile here

Wednesday Sessions - Change of Venue from 5th June

In an attempt to attract more runners the coaches have decided to switch the meet point for the Wednesday evening sessions back to the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Slipshatch Road for the duration of June. The first session from this venue will be at 7pm on Wednesday 5th June.

Jimmy James Handicap Reboot

A reminder that the first race of the revamped Jimmy James Handicap will be held in Priory Park at 7pm on Thursday 6th June. You need to pre-register by end of day on Sunday 2nd June if you want to take part (to date only one person has done so!) by emailing your name and a recent 5K or 10K time to . This will enable us to calculate your handicap and start time and save you having to hang around at the start.

The course will comprise long and short loops of the park and will be approximately 4.8 miles (7.7 km) long. There will be a "target" time of one hour. The current scoring mechanism will still apply: 12 points for first place, 10 for second, 9 for third an so on. All runners will score at least one point. The Jimmy James Handicap Trophy will be awarded to the runner with the highest number of points after the final race has been held.

We will also require a few volunteers to help marshal the course, so if you are able to help please let us know by emailing

Dorking 10s

Good luck to all our members who are taking part in the Dorking 10s this Sunday 2nd June. As a reminder the Dorking 10 mile race is our 10 mile Club Championship race as well as being an RPAC Grand Prix event and a Surrey Championship race.

Masters League Fixture 2

The second Masters' League fixture takes place at Epsom next Monday, 3rd June. More details are here, please email for further details.

Cranleigh 7-14-21 Mile Race Sunday 14th July

Entries are now open for this race which is organised by the MABAC league. Please support this if you can as it is the league's only fundraising race of the year and profits from this ensure that the MABAC league races are free to enter. If you don't fancy running it please consider volunteering as since we are a member club we are required to provide two volunteers.
The race comprises 7 mile loops on a mixture of road and trail (the Downs Link path). You can decide what distance to run on the day. More details and entry are here

Some members news in brief...

Four RPAC members took on the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday. First home was Siubhan Clines, beating her PB by nearly 18 minutes when she finished in 03:36:02. Siubhan said " Weather was horrific but still a lovely run I’d definitely recommend." Close behind her was Dominic Hayward who finished in 03:37:43. I think this may have been Dominic's first marathon as I can't find him on Power of 10. There was a big PB (by some 22 minutes) too for the next RPAC finisher Lucy Kulp, who finished in 04:15:05. Thea Macdonald completed the RPAC team finishing in 04:28:38.

Very well done to all of you!
