Urgent: Relays Race Director needed

The Priory Relays, typically held in early November, have been an important fixture on the local race calendar since before Reigate Priory AC was a club - in fact, we inherited the race from the Redhill and Surrey Beagles. But this year, Jas Dhanda is stepping down as race director, meaning that if we want the tradition to continue, we urgently need someone or several someones to step into his shoes. The race director establishes the basic infrastructure for the race, supported by and working with other team members, including the race facilitator, entries secretary, volunteer co-ordinator, chief marshal, and others to deliver a successful event. This is a well-established race and though there are logistics to work out, there is also a lot of support available to do so. If you are at all interested, please contact the club secretary at  for more information.

Seniors News

Tuesday 21st May is K2 (as well as Battlebridge) ***today***

You should have received an email informing you that on Tuesday 21st May (today) there is a session at K2. The session will start at 7.30pm and last 60 minutes. Please get there in plenty of time to allow for parking and to warm up before 7.30pm. The session is open to all seniors, not just those who normally train in any specific group. There will be a £3 charge for each person that attends, to help cover the cost of the K2 hire. This will be paid "on the night", either by card or cash (exact change only).

There will also be a session at Battlebridge at 7pm for anyone who can't make it to K2.

Monday 27th May is a Bank Holiday - session cancelled

Due to the bank holiday next Monday, there will be no evening run at 6PM from Battlebridge.

Thursday 30th May session cancelled and NADI reminder

The session in Priory Park is cancelled on Thursday 30th May due to the NADI. The South London Harriers "Near as Dammit 10K" series of 3 trail 10K races has been going for at least as long as I've been a member of RPAC (1999). It is always very popular with our membership. It takes place on Farthing Downs (7:30PM start), and presents an excellent race for a low cost, being £7 per race or £18 for the series. The events are on Thursday 30th May, Thursday 27th June and Thursday 25th July. You can read the details of the NADI here.

Strength and Conditioning

Last Wednesday we had a successful strength and conditioning class. However, unfortunately, Frank has now said he’s unable to commit to a weekly session so I am searching an alternative instructor.  I will update as soon as I have further details.

Jimmy James Handicap Reboot

Attendance at the Jimmy James Handicap races that we've held in conjunction with Dorking & Mole Valley AC for the last few seasons has dwindled to the point where it's no longer viable in its current form, so for this year we have decided to try something different to try to encourage more people to take part. On the first Thursday of each of the next three months, we will stage a handicap race within Priory Park in place of the regular hills training session. The first race will be on Thursday 6th June.

The course will comprise long and short loops of the park and will be approximately 4.8 miles (7.7 km) long. There will be a "target" time of one hour. In order to avoid a lot of waiting around, you will need to pre-register and let us know a recent 5K or 10K time so that we can calculate your handicap and start time. Please email . The current scoring mechanism will still apply: 12 points for first place, 10 for second, 9 for third an so on. All runners will score at least one point. The Jimmy James Handicap Trophy will be awarded to the runner with the highest number of points after the final race has been held.

We will also require a few volunteers to help marshal the course, so keep an eye out for emails soon.

Masters League Fixture 1 @ Wimbledon: Monday 13th May

You can see the participants from Reigate Priory AC on the night above apart from Tim Kimber who had already left to catch a train.

Having taken part myself in this fixture last week, I must say that it was a superb experience. We had a great turn-out on the night from RPAC. I had never actually run a 1500m race since childhood (where I didn't exactly excel if I'm honest and if my memory serves), so I didn't know what I was letting myself in for, but managed 3rd in the V60 race on the night. Andrew Pringle has written a report from the evening which you can read here, and you can also see results and photos from the event.

You can see the full details of the Masters League here. Do email us on for any queries or to let us know which discipline you'd like to select for the next fixture on Monday 3rd June at Epsom.

SAL @ Tooting: Saturday 18th May

Four athletes competed alongside Dorking & Mole Valley and Holland Sports AC in Saturday at match 1 of the SAL track and field: Andrew Pringle and Ginevra Stoneley, as well as two newcomers, Emily Jeane and Linda Rodriguez.

Results from the SAL on Saturday will follow.

You can see the SAL fixtures here. If you'd be interested to attend a SAL fixture or for any other queries do please email us on

MABAC @ Farnham Park: Sunday, 19th May

We were at Farnham Park on Sunday 19th May to run the MABAC League 2024 fixture 4. As you can see above there was a fantastic turn-out on the day. I'd like to give full credit to Andrew Bamford, our MABAC organiser, who unfortunately was unable to run but still organised us all prior to the event and was present on the day to support and take photos. Andrew has provided a report from the day which you can read here.
You can see all of the MABAC fixtures on our website. I hope that we will see you at the next fixture which is on Tuesday 11th June at 7:30PM at Denbies. You can email any MABAC queries to

Some members news in brief...

We've heard from Paul Sapsard who ran 11 miles in the sweltering heat of California at the weekend. He's thinking of joining his local running club, called "Sweat" - very appropriate!

Kate Knight successfully completed her 168th marathon, even with a torrential thunderstorm half way through.

Roger Hillier (ex-member and friend of RPAC) was quiz master at St. Philips Church, Nutley Lane on Saturday 18th May, and there were two RPAC teams fielded (out of 8 teams in total). Team 1 was made up of Paul Walters, Sarah Walters, Mike Pocock, Annette Morris, Ian and Janet Moore, and Mike and Fiona Gent. Team 2 was made up of Stewart McIntyre, Ginevra Stoneley and Gineva's sister, Debbie Robinson, Nat Wilson and Andrew Bamford. Team 2 were joint 2nd, and Team 1 were outright winner. It was great fun.

Up-coming fixtures

So much choice for running this summer! Whether club championship races, MABAC, Surrey Road League, SAL, Masters League, XC, parkrun tourism or other events we take part in, there's many an opportunity to don the RPAC vest. You can see a full list of events on our website here.

Do get in touch with the appropriate league managers if you have any queries - see the Who's who page to find out the contact details. All of these events should be on our calendar.
