Reigate Priory parkrun anniversary and takeover

We're taking over the Reigate Priory parkrun this Saturday, 23rd March! In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Reigate Priory parkrun - not to mention Paul Walters' first event as a MV60 - we'll be turning out at parkrun in force. We will have a gazebo flying the RPAC flag for a post-run breakfast - all club members and families are invited and very welcome. And if you've got an RPAC running top, this would be the day to wear it - let's show off the club colours!

RPAC Parkrun Tourism 2024

The first venue of RPAC parkrun Tourism 2024 is at Reigate Priory this coming Saturday, but you can see the full schedule here - next up is Banstead Woods on 27 April. We're also running a competition throughout the season this year; please check out the details of that on the page mentioned above (as well as Adrian Grant's excellent notes on area parkruns). Hope to see you this Saturday!

Stapley and Willis at Leeds

RPAC juniors Samuel Stapley and Euan Willis travelled up to Leeds with the Surrey Schools cross country team for the English Schools National Cross-Country Championships. After an 8-hour journey to the hotel (including an all-important Toby Carvery pitstop), it was an early night to match the 6:30am start; both managed to avoid the full English breakfast that was on offer! In usual Surrey tradition, the morning consisted of a powerful team talk led by the team manager and captains to remind everyone of previous successes, then arriving in plenty of time to walk the 6.1km course before relaxing and fuelling ahead of the 3pm race start. By the start of the senior boys’ race, the course was absolutely torn to shreds, with thick mud that your whole foot would sink into covering large parts of the laps. Despite the mud, England’s premier Youth XC race was incredibly fast, as always, with over 300 of England’s top 16 to 18-year-old boys competing. Nevertheless, our boys managed to secure Team Silver with impressive individual performances – 23rd for Samuel Stapley and 75th for Euan Willis, despite both being the year down in their age group. With quite the day of championship racing behind them, it was a long journey home – but the trip was eased by some service station fast food!

Surrey Road League needs you

The first race of the Surrey Road League - the Sutton 10K on 7 April - is fast approaching and we need you! Let's be honest: You were probably going to do some of these races anyway, right? Why not do as many as you can and help RPAC get to the top of the league? Last year, the men managed an impressive 6th place finish, with the women in 7th; this year, with more runners, we hope to do even better. All you need to do is enter the races you can make and list Reigate Priory Athletic Club as your club. Contact or if you have any questions or want to coordinate travel to the races.

Members' news

Sunday was wet and miserable, but it nevertheless saw some brilliant running from a whole pack of RPAC runners at the Kingston Break-Fest 8, 16, and 20 mile races. Apologies if we miss you here - the results page doesn't seem to allow us to search by club - but well done to Ginevra Stoneley, using the 20-mile as a training run in her marathon cycle and still flying in 2:32:43; Ruth Willis, also deep in her training for London, finishing in 2:44:45; Toby Kent, on a streak after last week's Paddock Wood Half, finished the 16 mile race in 2:25:10; Lisa Ashley, also in training, finished the 20 miles in 3:04:55; and Claire Humphrey powered through to 16 miles in 2:41:48.

If Kingston was wet, at least it wasn't wet and centred around a monumental hill. Major kudos to Kelly-Marie Mason who, having only just returned from supporting her brother's Tokyo Marathon and running the Friendship 5K there, decided to power up and down one of the area's most notorious hills in the Leith Hill Half Marathon. "It's my favourite trail half marathon, but the conditions on the ground were the worst I've ever seen," Kelly said. "But was all worth it to get to the top of Leith Hill and the cooked breakfast at the end!"
