RPAC AGM Monday 29th April

After eight brilliantly organised years as secretary, Ginevra Stoneley is stepping down; Ruth Willis, ladies’ cross country team manager, has heroically volunteered to take her place. Ginevra will remain on the committee, which has also gained a new member in Linda Rodriguez, who accidentally talked herself into a communications and social events and media role; Carmela Charalambous will be standing down this year; Andrew Bamford will be standing down as Competitions Secretary but will remain on the committee.

Nearly 30 members of the club turned out to approve these changes at the AGM on Monday evening, held at the YMCA.

A major focus going forward will continue to be working with the council to further develop and improve the facilities at Battlebridge.

Financially, moving the club’s savings into a higher interest account in the last year has yielded significant gains, and we’re operating with a surplus of £1708. Club fees will be set at £58 this year, reflecting a £2 increase levied by England Athletics.

A motion to change the rules around the selection of Ted Baker Award winners also passed; the selection committee will now be made up of past winners, rather than the committee.

YMCA Fun Run Sunday 5th May

According to Ian Burks you can still enter the fun run and he'd also be very happy to hear from you if you can volunteer to help at the event on Sunday. We will have the gazebo and RPAC flag, so look for us if you attend the event. At your own risk you can leave belongings at the gazebo, and we may even have refreshments for after.

Summer Evening 10K, 3rd July 2024 (by Moray Carey, Acting Race Director)

Can you spare an hour to help distribute A5 race flyers in the Priory this weekend to promote the Summer Evening 10k, please?

The required dates (so far) are:
  • Sat 4th May (9.15am - 10.15am) to runners finishing the Reigate Priory parkrun
  • Sun 5th May (10.45am - 11.45am) to runners finishing the YMCA 5 mile Fun Run
The flyer incentivises runners to enter by 19th May as this will give them an automatic £2 early bird discount.

The YMCA Fun Runs take place during the Reigate Sports Festival at which a number of local sports clubs will be present. RPAC has booked a stand, principally to publicise the Summer Evening 10k, but also to advertise the club.

If you’re able to help with the distribution and/or help out on the stand for a while, please let me know on .

Annette Morris set a new club 5K record for her age category on Friday 26th April by completing the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5K in Hyde Park in 24:53. Not only was this a new record, but according to Power of 10, it was also Annette's fastest road 5K since 2013. Amazing running Annette!

Graham Bull reports that "On a return to Birmingham at the weekend to meet up with some of her old university friends Eloise took in the UoB 3,000m track open, recording a time of 10:25.20 (a new PB)." That also happens to be a new Senior Ladies' club record. Congratulations Eloise!

Slightly further afield Jim Vince reports:

"Unfortunately I was away this weekend so couldn’t do the Banstead Parkrun tourism…

But I did manage to do the Alstervorland parkrun here in Hamburg yesterday followed by the Hamburg marathon today… Hamburg marathon is a great course. Almost flat the whole way, a few turns but a great crowd throughout…

Logistically Hamburg is very easy from Reigate as well…"

Jim finished the Parkrun in 29:31 and the marathon in 04:54:49. Nice Work Jim!

Up and coming fixtures

You lucky people - so much choice for running this summer! Whether club championship races, MABAC, Surrey Road League, SAL, Masters League, XC, parkrun tourism or other events we take part in, there's many an opportunity to don the RPAC vest. You can see a full list of events on our website here.

Do get in touch with the appropriate league managers if you have any queries - see the Who's who page to find out the contact details. All of these events should be on our calendar.

MABAC Cranleigh 7-14-21 Sunday 14th July

Please support this if you can as it is the only fund earning race being staged by MABAC this season. All funds go towards ensuring that the league fixtures are free to enter.

The race was previously billed as ideal preparation for Spring marathons but following the change of course in 2023 and the attrocious conditions, the MABAC committee decided to change it to the Summer to try to avoid the worst of the mud.

The race follows a 7 mile loop that is partly on road and partly on the Downslink trail (a former railway track). You can decide on the day whether you want to run one, two or three laps; in fact you can decide during the race!

Full details of the race are on the MABAC website. It costs £20 to enter

Nearer the date I will be asking for volunteers to help marshal, etc. We are required to provide marshals as a condition of our league membership.
