Event Taster Sessions
Would you like to try a new event?
Now that we’re back to training, we would like to offer both junior and senior members a chance to try out a new event. The sessions are designed to develop new event specific techniques over three sessions, each coached by an RPAC senior coach and an active athlete from each discipline.
To start with we have chosen two events but this maybe broadened inline with interest levels.
You’ll learn the principles of the pull throw; speed, technique and strength. You’ll also learn that only a fraction of your throwing strength comes from the arm! Using adapted equipment to start by the end of the of the three sessions the goal is to have you throwing Javelins.
Coaches: Kirsten Mackison (Ellis Cain-Jones to support)
Active athlete: Katie Mackison who finished 2019 ranked 7th in the UK
Hurdling is, because of its technical and energy demands, an exciting and challenging event. Athletes will learn how to approach the counterintuitivity of sprinting toward a barrier by developing the solid technique and balance required to clear a hurdle.
Coach: Ian Martin
Active athlete: Sophie Elliss, coached by Greg Knott was 2nd in the UK 80m hurdles and last year ranked 7th for the 400m hurdles.
So, how do you register to be the next Fatima Whitbread or Colin Jackson? e-mail me directly to with your chosen event and we will provide you dates for the events. The javelin is likely to be on Thursdays between 6 and 7pm at Battlebridge.
Groups will be restricted to four or five athletes under the current UKA advice, which we hope will be reviewed in the coming weeks.
We look forward to hearing from you
