England Athletics have today updated their guidance following the relaxation of the lockdown rules. In summary:
- Exercise outdoors only in groups of up to 6 people providing athletes/runners maintain social distancing advice i.e. 2m apart if from a different household
- A coach and up to 5 athletes or runners can train together provided they maintain social distancing i.e. 2m apart if from a different household
- Advice for young, masters and disabled runners and athletes is contained in the athlete guidance document.
However, the Club and coaches must conduct risk assessments before any official club or coach led sessions can take place, otherwise both club and coaches will be operating without insurance. We will also need to have official confirmation from the Council that we are allowed to use Battlebridge during our licenced hours, and that we can take the necessary steps to ensure that members of the public do not encroach on any training sessions we are conducting.
This is going to take time, so please do not expect an immediate return to even the small group sessions mentioned above. We will advise as soon as the necessary assessments have been completed, and the Club coaches have had a chance to discuss how best to move forward.
