Club News for Everyone
Hello everyone I hope you're all keeping safe and well.
Welcome to our New Members
Please join me in extending a warm RPAC welcome to the following people who have joined the club very recently
Leo Beale, Henry Goggin, Tiago Kelly, Emily Leitch, Florence Minchin, Matilda Minchin, Florence Mittelstadt, Hazel Moore, Lauren Moore, Belle Rice, William Roland and Alex Sheard
Apologies if I have missed anyone - let us know who you are and you will get a mention next week
Mike Gent advises that we will shortly be making an order for Junior and Senior hoodies. Look out for the electronic order form that will be circulated by email.
Virtual London Marathon
A number of RPAC athletes took part in the Virtual London Marathon yesterday (October 4th). Well done to all of you! It must have been more challenging than ever given the atrocious weather and the lack of cheering crowds to spur you on. You are all heroes.
Results will be added to the results page in due course, but for the time being here are the ones we know about...
Kate Knight completed 3 marathons in one go as she ran the Dorney Marathon yesterday but was also registered for the virtual London and Loch Ness Marathons.
Junior Training Sessions
Training for the U11s has resumed on Saturday mornings. We are still constrained by EA guidelines as to the permissible number of athletes per coach and so will each week be asking who wishes to attend so that we can manage the numbers.
A number of RPAC athletes have managed to find events to run in recent weeks. Full details are available via the "Latest Senior Results" section on the homepage or via the individual result pages. Here are some highlights.
Malcolm completed his first race in nearly a year last Saturday (26th September) following his surgery - a very respectable 26:39 in the Run Through Lee Valley Velopark 5K. Good to see you back out there Malcolm!
Ginevra has been setting new club records in her age category - firstly the 5K (19:31) in the same race as Malcolm and then on the track at Herne Hill this Saturday (3rd October) she set new category records for the 1 mile (5:35.48) and 3000m (10:48.90) events. Amazing Ginevra!
George Roux completed a very speedy 5K (15:44) in the RunThrough Running GP at Goodwood last Sunday. Well done George!
A bit further from home Jim Vince completed the Isle of Wight marathon in 4:38:58 yesterday (4th October). In his understated style Jim says that it was "a bit hilly" and "conditions weren't ideal" - that tells me that it was seriously tough!
Senior Training Sessions
Apparently there are roadworks and temporary traffic lights in the Merstham area which are causing serious traffic delays. Make sure you allow yourself extra time to get to Battlebridge.
You can see the participants of the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday coached sessions here. There are now more than 12 participants on each list, and going forward the numbers for each group will depend on participants occasionally not being able to make an individual session (such as holiday or injury) to limit the groups to 12 people per session. If you know that you can't make a particular session please try to let us know so that your place can be reallocated.
Ian Edmonds is now running an additional "Recovery and Improvers" session starting at 6pm on Mondays from Battlebridge. Please note that this is not a track session.
Keep in touch
It's more important than ever that we keep in touch with each other at this time. Stay safe everybody. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see in the newsletter.
