parkrun tourism to Cranleigh, Saturday 9th December

We are off for parkrun tourism to Cranleigh parkrun on Saturday, 9th December - all are very welcome. Please plan to be in Cranleigh for 8:30am. Parking is available at the venue near the start, but please do read the website as it gives full details of the parking available.  The location is Knowle Park, Knowle Lane, Cranleigh GU6 8JL.  Knowle Park is a newly designed park designed with runners in mind (extra wide paths).

We want to encourage car sharing, so please do either partner up with others who can come or send Paul an email if you want a lift or can offer lifts and he will coordinate. For afterwards, there is a large choice of cafes in Cranleigh's nearby High Street, already researched by Adrian and Debs Grant and Peter Luxton. The Yangaz Bistro Grill is the best, located in High Street at end of Knowle Lane. Unfortunately they don't take bookings, but we will find somewhere. Any questions, please email .

Couch to 5K graduation at Ifield Mill Pond parkrun

On a crisp and bright late November morning, Reigate Priory AC headed to Ifield Mill Pond parkrun with the participants of the Couch to 5K Programme to support them through their graduation run. We had a terrific turnout and saw some excellent performances - Annette Morris finished in 25:19, earning the day's top age grading of 82.55 percent! Congrats to all the graduates (and Annette!); you can read more about the event here

Members' news

We are sorry to report that we neglected to mention (because we hadn't been informed, ahem) that Charlie Butcher bested Fran Dunham's V40 half marathon record on 22 October at the Kingston Half Marathon - Butcher raced to second place overall in an unbelievable 1:12:17. Well done, Charlie!

More recently, on 25 November, an intrepid team of RPAC runners took on the 5-mile South of the Thames Cross Country race; Henry Munro reports: "On a crisp, sunny afternoon in Beckenham Place Park, the quartet of Andrew Patrick, Dave Rayner, Henry Munro and Ian Burks boldly took on the challenge of the South of the Thames cross-country team race. The likes of Kent AC had over 60 runners so we were definitely outnumbered, but was good to get a team out. On the start line a moving tribute was given to Ron Hales, a Kent AC member of 76 years who passed away this year, aged 98. He was one of the founders of SOTT and Beckenham park was his home race, he loved it so much his ashes were scattered in the park after he passed. A poignant reminder of the history in these races.

The race itself was a delight compared to the last cross country race over in Oxted. No bogs, just 5 miles of undulating terrain through the park. No idea on where we placed, but fair to say we were all there for the enjoyment of cross country rather than looking for a victory. A great event." (For the record, the Reigate men came 31st, according to the provisional results.)

Kate Knight completed her 153rd marathon at the weekend, the very chilly Turkey Trot from the Suffolk Running Centre at Bury St. Edmonds, on Saturday. Next up, she says, Ferry Meadows County Park!
