Eighteen young athletes from RPAC took part in the Surrey Schools XC Championships on Saturday. All those taking part had qualified for these Championships by competing to a high standard in the district races held around Surrey before Christmas.
With the top six finishers in each age group guaranteed selection for the Surrey Schools team competing at the English Schools XC Championships in Leeds on 16th March, the competition was fierce. Huge congratulations to Lucy Broderick, 4th in the Inter-Girls race, and Lucy Dénecé, 4th in the Junior Girls race, who have both been confirmed in the Surrey team.
In addition to the English Schools National Championships there are two South East Schools Inter-counties matches coming up. Lucy Broderick will be joined by Emelye Kenyon-Brown and Katie Driver in the Surrey Senior Girls and Inter-Girls teams competing in Hampshire on 2nd February. The Surrey Year 7 and Year 8 teams are competing in Sussex on 23rd March and RPAC have a strong presence with Lucy Dénecé joined by Gusie Lewis, Shakila Keable, Samuel Stapley, Sam Rolaston and Will John-Cox.
In addition to those mentioned above, there were plenty of other strong runs from the club's juniors. In the Senior Girls, Poppy Wardley and Pippa Wonders. In the Junior girls Eva Marsh and Zara Watkinson. In the U13 girls Alessia Turner, Lilah Unwin, Lily Woodhams and Holly Elliott. Freddie Fowler ran well in the Junior boys race.
The big races keep coming at this time of year with several off to Parliament Hill this Saturday to compete in the South of England XC Championships.
